BlackRock CEO denies company’s interest in cryptocurrency
Larry Fink, the CEO of BlackRock has denied all such reports where the company was looking to get involved with the cryptocurrency market.
The news broke out that, “BlackRock Inc., the world’s largest ETF provider was looking to get into the cryptocurrency market.”
However, Fink responded to Bloomberg stating, “I don’t believe any client has sought out crypto exposure. I’ve not heard from one client who says, ‘I need to be in this.’”
The BlackRock CEO also said that, “The company wishes to study the market while waiting for clear market laws from regulators.” Fink also says that, “The company will consider whether the best performing coins are viable alternatives to fiat.”
However, Isabelle Mateos y Lago, the Chief Multi-Asset Strategist and Managing Director earlier mentioned that BlackRock would enquire with them at least once a week about any Bitcoin buy clients.
In 2017, the BlackRock CEO called Bitcoin “speculative.” also saying that, “Bitcoin’s claim to fame was in the anonymity it provided criminals to engage in their illicit activities – an argument that has been debunked on multiple occasions.”
The coming days ahead will most likely tell us more on the developing story from BlackRock.
